Today's tip is going to be more of a reminder. We're halfway through the month today. That means halfway through NaNoWriMo. So I'm just going to assume that you already have a writing routine down and that you plug away at your words each and every day.
However, for those of you who feel like you may not be doing enough, or even want to do more, there's one thing you can do. Try writing in bursts. Set a timer for a short amount of minutes, like five, ten, fifteen, or twenty, and try to write as much as you can during that period of time. You'd be amazed at the things you think up on the spot. It may seem a little difficult at first, but I promise, over time, you will come to love it.
There's a web/desktop application out there developed by Dr. Wicked called Write or Die. If you are seriously thinking about giving writing in bursts an attempt, I suggest testing it out on this application. You can set word limits, time limits, or both. I usually try to do both. But just give it a try.
If you find that competing is your cup of tea, try going to the NaNoWriMo forums, follow @NaNoWriMoSprint on Twitter, and/or try having a Word War with someone else. This is where you set the timer and just write as much as possible in the amount of time set and who ever writes more is the winner. It's pretty fun. Just try not to procrastinate too much in the process.
